November 1 BMAA Meeting: Astro facts and fiction.

One of our long-time members who is a knowledgeable and experienced observer and telescope maker will give a special presentation titled “Astro facts and fiction.” He will cover various aspects of optics, observing and mechanics. As with all of these interesting presentations, you are sure to leave our meeting better-informed than when you arrived.

We will have the usual time to review past and coming activities and to share photos, latest gear and even some experiences from the eclipse (for anyone who missed the September and October meetings).

Our meetings, open to all, begin at 7:30 pm in the usual room at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church, 411 Susquehanna Rd., Ambler, 19002. Look for the yellow and black sign.

On Supernovae, and Not Touching Telescopes!

Our featured presentation will be given by Dr. Chris D’Andrea, from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. Chris will give a brief overview of supernovae and cosmology, related too his research as an astrophysicist at the University of Pennsylvania.  He’ll talk about what they are and the ways in which they’re so important.  He will also talk about how little contact an astrophysicist typically has with actual telescopes, and what scientists mean when they talk about ‘observing’.  ; We’ll see pictures he has taken on his observing trips to Chile and Hawaii over the past decade.

Our meetings begin at 7:30 pm in the usual room at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church, 411 Susquehanna Rd., Ambler, 19002. Look for the yellow and black sign.

September 6 Meeting: Share your “eclipse experiences.”

Eclipse Across America Dwight Dulsky WEBSITE 01
Join us for our meeting to share your experiences with the “Great America” eclipse!
Following a brief review of our coming activities, we will devote our time to share our collective experiences with the eclipse. If you wish to share some brief highlights (no longer than 10 minutes please) describe the most interesting/memorable highlights of your “eclipse experience,” using maps, photos, souvenirs or whatever. We will start on the west coast and follow the progression of the eclipse  to the southeast.  We may even have a special prize for the best “hard luck” story.
Our meeting is open to anyone who has something special about the eclipse to share; it’s not restricted to members.
Meetings are held at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church, 411 Susquehanna Road, Ambler, PA (19002) beginning at 7:30 pm. Look for the yellow and black signs.
