November 2 Meeting: Intermediate deep sky astrophotography techniques.

The featured presentation for our November 2 meeting will emphasize intermediate level astrophotography using a portable imaging setup.
Topics covered will include:
– Uunderstanding image noise and the importance of long exposures and dark sky,
– Why to guide?
– Choosing a scope, mount (from barn door tracker to GEM) and camera (DSLRs vs CCDs, Color vs Monochrome, camera settings)
– Useful accessories (power supply, computer, focusing aid tools, filters, software etc).
– Choosing objects for imaging.
– A brief introduction to image processing.
Our meetings beginning at 7:30 pm, are held at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church, 411 Susquehanna Road, Ambler (19002). Meetings are open to the public; if you have an interest in or curiosity about amateur astronomy, please join us.

October 5 Meeting – Solar eclipse mechanics

The featured presentation at the October 5 meeting will be a presentation of the mechanics of a Solar eclipse.

The featured presentation at the September 7 meeting will be Part 2: Deep sky observing techniques and practical aspects; locating celestial showcase objects; etc..  One of our knowledgeable members will pick up where he left off with Part 1. It is guaranteed to be interesting.

Are you thinking about building your own observatory. Our featured presentation will address cost effective and affordable ways of building a personal observatory as well as various designs as well as steps involved with actual building an observatory.

July 6th 2016 BMAA Monthly Meeting – Getting the most out of your telescope!

Telescopes Clinic ImageJoin us for a meeting to help you understand your telescope and how to get the best use of it. We’ll review types of telescope and mount designs and will have stations set up to review the use of GoTo and other types of mounts; basic telescope adjustments and set-up. If skies permit, we’ll go out for some observing. You are encouraged to bring your telescope and questions. If your telescope requires batteries or power, please bring those along charged up and ready to go. It is also good to have your manual present. If you lost it or do not have it, most of the telescope manufacturers have manuals online you can download and print out. Meeting starts at 7:30 PM at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church, corner of Butler Pike and Susquehanna Roads in Ambler, PA (just a quarter mile from the Butler pike exit of the 309 expressway).
